The Woodlands Community Development District is an independent special district established pursuant to Chapter 190, Florida Statutes and created by ordinance of the city of North Port, Florida.  The District operates and/or maintains certain community infrastructure improvements, including, but not limited to, the storm-water management system, the conservation and wetland preservation areas, landscaping entries, the master irrigation distribution system, and monument signs.  The District constructed these and other capital infrastructure improvements utilizing bonded indebtedness which is secured by fixed annual assessments, amortized over 30 years, on private property located within the District.  

Annually, the District adopts a budget and levies operations and maintenance assessments on private property within the District, to fund the ongoing operational expenses of the District.  The District’s annual budget and the operations and maintenance assessments may vary from year to year depending on the needs of the District.  The governing board of the District is composed of five (5) elected residents of the District and is known as the “Board of Supervisors.”

The Woodlands CDD operates within the ethics provisions as outlined by the Florida Commission on Ethics.
